Chocolate-Filled Angel Food Cake
Ingredients
- 2 cups miniature marshmallows
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ⅓ cup water
- 1 (6 oz) package dark chocolate chips
- 3 cups Lite Cool Whip, divided
- ⅛ teaspoon almond extract
- 1 (14.5 oz) angel food cake mix, prepared according to package directions.
- 1 (21 oz) can cherry pie filling (optional)
Instructions
- Combine marshmallows, salt and water in sauce-pan; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat and stir in chocolate chips. Chill 10 minutes. Fold in 1½ cups Cool Whip and almond extract.
- Hollow out cake by cutting a 1-inch layer off top and cutting a trench around cake. Tear cake pieces slightly. Fill cake with half of chocolate mixture. Place torn cake pieces on chocolate and press down slightly. Top with remaining chocolate. Replace top of cake.
- Chill several hours. Frost with remaining 1½ cups Cool Whip
