Make a plan to avoid pitfalls

  • Office Goodies can be a huge temptation. To avoid falling prey to these tasty treats, take these simple actions:
    • Stick to a regular schedule of healthy meals and snacks.
    • DON’T SKIP BREAKFAST!
    • Keep healthy snacks in your desk.
    • Drink water frequently throughout the day.
  • Schedule a time to be active everyday.  Inactivity leads to weight gain so make a plan to keep moving throughout the holidays.
    • Bundle up and go for a brisk walk.
    • Try something new – sign up for a charity walk, go ice-skating, sign-up for a fitness challenge, make a family play day, go for a hike – there are so many ways to be active besides going to the gym!
  • Incorporate healthy recipes into holiday meals.  Make sure the items you bring to a holiday gathering are healthy, delicious treats you can enjoy.  To find some of my favorites, I hope you will visit the recipe archives on our website or order my holiday cookbook, Confessions from a Dietitian’s Kitchen!

As we begin December 2016, I want to encourage you to be intentional about the foods and beverages you consume this holiday season. Ask yourself, “Is this something I really love?  If so, enjoy it in moderation.  If not, pass it by!

The recipe today is one of my favorites, Best-Ever Turkey Pot Pie, perfect if you still have leftover Thanksgiving turkey.  If not, it is equally good using chicken!
